☀️📖Vesi Yoga
Veśī Yoga
Solar power amplified — a planet behind the Sun strengthens solar qualities
The Vesi-Vasi-Ubhayachari family of yogas involves planets positioned around the Sun. Vesi specifically requires a planet in the 2nd house from the Sun (the house immediately after the Sun in zodiacal order). This planet "follows" the Sun, amplifying its qualities. The nature of the yoga depends heavily on which planet occupies the 2nd from Sun: Jupiter gives wisdom and leadership; Venus gives charm and wealth; Mercury gives intelligence and communication; Mars gives courage and drive; Saturn gives discipline and endurance. Malefics in this position create a challenging Vesi, while benefics create an auspicious one.
How it forms
Any planet (excluding Moon, Rahu, and Ketu in classical definitions) must occupy the 2nd house from the Sun's position. If the Sun is in Simha (house 5 for an example Lagna), a planet in Kanya (house 6) would form Vesi.
📖 Phaladeepika, Chapter 6 — "If planets occupy the 2nd house from the Sun, the native is truthful, industrious, and possesses great wealth and fame."
✅ Strengthened by
- A natural benefic (Jupiter, Venus, Mercury) in the 2nd from Sun
- That planet also being in a strong sign (own/exalt/friendly)
- The Sun itself in a strong sign (Mesha exaltation, Simha own)
⚠️ Weakened / Cancelled by
- A strong malefic (Saturn, Rahu) in the 2nd from Sun creates challenging Vesi
- The planet in 2nd from Sun being combust by the Sun itself (impossible — it's in the next sign)
- The Sun very weak in its debilitation sign (Tula)

Frequently Asked Questions
What are Vesi, Vasi, and Ubhayachari Yogas?
These are the three Sun-adjacent yogas: Vesi = planet in 2nd from Sun; Vasi = planet in 12th from Sun; Ubhayachari = planets on BOTH sides (2nd AND 12th from Sun simultaneously). Ubhayachari is considered strongest as the Sun is flanked by planetary energy on both sides.
Does Moon count for these yogas?
Classical texts vary. Most traditional sources exclude the Moon from forming Vesi/Vasi/Ubhayachari. Shadow planets Rahu and Ketu are also typically excluded. The Moon has its own set of planetary relationship yogas (Sunapha, Anapha, Durudhara).
Is a malefic Vesi always bad?
A malefic (Mars, Saturn) forming Vesi gives different rather than entirely negative results. Mars-Vesi may give aggressive ambition and drive; Saturn-Vesi may give discipline and endurance. The "challenging" quality refers to the harsher means through which the solar qualities manifest.
How significant is Vesi Yoga compared to other yogas?
Vesi is a secondary yoga — it supports and amplifies other combinations rather than standing alone as a chart-defining feature. Its value lies in enhancing the Sun's significations when present alongside stronger yogas.
