Vedic Aspects — Graha Drishti & Special Aspects

7th House Aspect

Every planet aspects the house directly opposite (7th from itself). This is the universal aspect — no exceptions. Two planets 180° apart exert full mutual aspect on each other.

Mars Special Aspects

Mars aspects the 4th and 8th houses in addition to the 7th. Its 4th-house aspect affects home, property, and mother; the 8th-house aspect carries a transformative (sometimes disruptive) quality to those matters.

Jupiter Special Aspects

Jupiter aspects the 5th and 9th houses — the two primary trikona houses. This makes Jupiter uniquely able to bless dharma, children, wisdom, and fortune from wherever it sits.

Saturn Special Aspects

Saturn aspects the 3rd and 10th houses — effort and career. Saturn's 3rd-house aspect disciplines communication and younger siblings; the 10th-house aspect shapes career trajectory with a quality of earned achievement (or karmic delay).

Do Rahu and Ketu cast aspects?

Yes — though classical sources vary. In the widely followed tradition, Rahu and Ketu cast 5th and 9th house special aspects (similar to Jupiter) in addition to the universal 7th. Some traditions also give them 3rd and 11th aspects. AstroShri follows the Parasara tradition of Rahu/Ketu casting 5th, 7th, and 9th aspects.

What is the difference between Graha Drishti and Rashi Drishti?

Graha Drishti (planetary aspect) is the aspect cast by a graha from its position — special to each planet, based on houses counted forward. Rashi Drishti (sign aspect) is different: each sign aspects specific other signs based on whether it is movable, fixed, or dual. Parashari analysis primarily uses Graha Drishti; Jaimini uses Rashi Drishti.

Are Vedic aspects the same as Western aspects (trine, square, sextile)?

No. Vedic Graha Drishti is house-based (7th, 4th/8th for Mars, etc.), not degree-based like Western trines (120°) or squares (90°). A Mars 4th-house aspect in Vedic astrology applies to the entire 4th house from Mars, regardless of the exact degree. Western aspects use a specific orb around the degree angle.
