KP HoraryHow KP Horary Works
Sub-Lord Theory
KP divides each nakshatra into 9 sub-divisions using Vimshottari proportions. The sub-lord of the cusp determines whether the signified matter is promised — the core innovation of the KP system.
Ruling Planets
At the moment of the question, the rising lagna lord, nakshatra lord, sub-lord, and the Moon's lords form the Ruling Planets — the set of planets most relevant to both the question and the answer.
Significator Chains
A planet significates a house when it occupies, aspects, or lords that house — or is in the nakshatra of any of those lords. Full significator chains computed for every KP chart.
Precise Timing
KP sub-sub-periods allow event timing to within weeks, far narrower than traditional Dasha windows. Ruling planet transit activation pinpoints the date.
Common Questions
How is KP Horary different from Vedic Prashna?
Both cast a chart for the moment of the question. KP Horary uses the Krishnamurti Paddhati system — sub-lord theory, Placidus cusps (KP cusps), and the Ruling Planets method. Vedic Prashna follows Parashari lagna-lord significator logic. KP is generally considered more granular for yes/no timing questions; Prashna gives broader qualitative context.
What is a KP chart number?
In traditional KP Horary, the querent selects a number from 1 to 249. Each number maps to a specific ascendant degree in the KP sub-lord table, creating the horary chart without knowing the exact moment. AstroShri supports both the numbered horary method and a real-time moment cast.
Which house cusps does KP use?
KP uses Placidus house cusps (with KP's own sub-lord table applied to each cusp). This distinguishes it from most Vedic systems (which use equal or whole-sign houses). The Placidus cusp degree, its nakshatra lord, and especially its sub-lord determine whether a matter is promised.
