My birthday is November 10. Why hasn't anyone told me about my Tithi before?

Because November 10 is the date the government recorded your birth. It is a bureaucratic coordinate, not an astronomical one. Your Tithi — the actual lunar-solar position of the sky on the day you were born — was known to your grandparents' generation but got overwritten by the Gregorian calendar that came with colonial administration. You are not missing information. It was just never surfaced for you. Until now.

My Janam Tithi changes date every year?

Yes. The Gregorian date of your Janam Tithi shifts every year because the lunar calendar and the solar calendar drift relative to each other (~11 days per year). Your cosmic birthday is not a fixed date — it is a recurring astronomical event. That's the point. The sky doesn't care about your calendar.

What is Adhik Masa and why does it matter?

Adhik Masa (leap lunar month) occurs roughly every 2-3 years to sync the lunar calendar with the solar year. When the month of your ancestor's Punya Tithi falls in a year with an Adhik Masa, classical Dharma Shastras specify whether the rite should be performed in the Adhik (first) or Nija (second) month. Most apps and many families get this wrong. AstroShri handles it correctly — built from the shastric rule, not guessed.

Does the time of sunrise actually affect my Tithi date?

Yes — critically. A Tithi can begin at 2 PM and end at 11 AM the next day. Whether that Tithi "belongs to" Tuesday or Wednesday depends entirely on where the sunrise falls within it. Two people born on the same Gregorian date — one in Mumbai, one in Chennai — may have different effective Tithis due to different sunrise times. Is this different from the "birthstar" (Nakshatra) my family already knows?

Yes. Your Janma Nakshatra (birth star) is the nakshatra the Moon was in at your birth — a single fixed point. Your Janam Tithi is the angular relationship between Sun and Moon at birth, which recurs annually. Both are important. Most families remember the Nakshatra but have forgotten the Tithi.
