⭐Pancha Mahapurusha Yoga
Pañca Mahāpuruṣa Yoga
The five great-person yogas — elevated expression of the five classical planets
The five Mahapurusha (great-person) Yogas represent the pinnacle of each classical planet's expression. Each yoga elevates the planet's natural significations to their most constructive and powerful form, creating natives who embody the best qualities of that planet. A chart may contain multiple Mahapurusha Yogas simultaneously — rare charts with two or more such combinations tend to produce historically significant figures. The yoga is not merely about achievement; it indicates that the native's life demonstrates a particular quality of greatness aligned with the planet's archetype.
How it forms
Each of the five classical planets (Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn) must individually be in its own sign or exaltation sign AND in a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th house) from the Lagna. Rahu, Ketu, Sun, and Moon are excluded from this category.
📖 Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Chapter 35 — The chapter is devoted entirely to these five yogas, providing the physical, mental, and spiritual characteristics of each type.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a person have all five Mahapurusha Yogas?
Theoretically possible but astronomically rare. All five classical planets would need to simultaneously occupy their own or exaltation signs in kendras. In practice, planetary speeds and orbital mechanics make this nearly impossible in a single birth chart.
Is a Mahapurusha Yoga more powerful than a Raja Yoga?
They operate differently. Mahapurusha Yoga elevates a single planet's archetype to its pinnacle. Raja Yoga creates a synergy between kendra and trikona lords for worldly success. A chart with both a strong Mahapurusha Yoga and multiple Raja Yogas is exceptionally powerful.
Does the Mahapurusha Yoga planet need to be the Lagna lord?
No — the formation only requires the planet to be in own/exalt in a kendra. However, when the Mahapurusha planet is also the Lagna lord (e.g., Mars in Mesha Lagna in the 1st house), the yoga reaches its maximum strength as the native's entire identity is coloured by it.
How do I know if my Mahapurusha Yoga is strong or weak?
Key factors: (1) Is the planet unafflicted? (2) Is it in directional strength (digbala)? (3) Is its sign lord also strong? (4) Does the yoga planet appear well-placed in Navamsha (D9)? AstroShri's Vimshopaka Bala score gives a precise numerical assessment of each planet's overall strength.
