Sign exchange — the mutual empowerment of two planets
Parivartana means "exchange" — when Planet A is in Planet B's sign and Planet B is in Planet A's sign, they enter a reciprocal agreement that makes each planet behave as if it were in its own sign. This is one of the most powerful house-strengthening mechanisms in Vedic astrology. The houses involved gain tremendous energy. When two angular lords exchange, the chart's overall power surges. When a trikona and kendra lord exchange, a powerful Raja Yoga is formed. Even "negative" Parivartanas (dusthana lords exchanging) create Viparita Raja Yoga.
How it forms
Planet A must be in the sign owned by Planet B, AND Planet B must simultaneously be in the sign owned by Planet A. Example: Saturn in Mesha (owned by Mars) with Mars in Makara or Kumbha (owned by Saturn).
